Call for Applications

RUPERT is an educational exhibition center devoted to establishing close cooperation between artists, thinkers, researchers, and other cultural actors through interdisciplinary programs and residencies.A knowledge-based platform for innovative creative production, RUPERT integrates with the social and cultural framework of the city of Vilnius while simultaneously supporting a strong international focus.

All applicants must submit a proposal of a project idea to develop throughout the duration of each program. This description should outline the project concept and include the name of an artist or thinker whom the applicant would ideally study under, along with a CV, cover letter describing artistic motivation, and a portfolio consisting of a maximum of five works. Selection is not based on applicants' academic or professional backgrounds.

Call for residency Applications, Symposium on Critical Tourism and a Trainee

Nida Art Colony (NAC) welcomes proposals from artists, designers, architects, curators, and art researchers for its upcoming summer-autumn residencies on the Baltic Sea coast in the Curonian Spit National Park, Lithuania. 



NAC is located in a remote and beautifully distinct landscape next to the resort town of Nida. The residency is most appropriate for those artists who are seeking time for experiments and research, value the creative process and a big studio or open-air space as well as for those who love coincidences and the chance to meet artists from all over the world. Parallel to the residency program, the Colony building also hosts student workshops and international artistic projects for shorter periods of time.



The Colony provides the necessary living and social conditions to ensure a comfortable environment for the five artists-in-residence. Each of the five residencies is set out on two floors with 65 square meters of floor space and feature all the necessary facilities. The colony is situated about 600 meters away from the sand dunes, and the beach. Two types of residencies are available: individual and thematic residencies. Please indicate the selected type of residency in the subject line and follow the application guidelines.



Individual Residencies


Duration: one to four months, between June and December 2013. The recommended duration of a residency is 2 months.
 Applicants from all over the world may apply.


Grants: No grants are currently available; selected candidates are issued a letter of support for individual grant-seeking.


Costs: Studio and living space rent is 412 EUR/month (June-September) and 312 EUR/month (October-December), including all taxes, use of equipment, communal spaces and bicycles.



Thematic Residencies


Duration: 2 months, between March and December 2013.



Techno-ecologies collaborative residencies are offered in partnership with RIXC. Please send your project proposals based on the keywords and your initial research on the specific Neringa issues. More here about the project Techno-ecologies. Individual and group (up to four persons) applications are welcome from artists, researchers, scientists, producers and curators.


Grants: There are five grants available, 700 EUR/month , travel (up to 350 Eur), studio, accommodation and production costs. 
Applicants from Europe and South America may apply.



Critical tourism residencies are intended for artists who want to develop a site-specific work relating to Nida and its touristic aspects. More here about the project On Hosting and Displacing.


Grants: There are two grants available, of 700 EUR/month, travel (up to 350 EUR), studio, accommodation and production costs.
Applicants from Switzerland, Nordic-Baltic countries, South Eastern Europe (Balkans) and South America may apply.



Thematic residencies are supported by the EU Culture Programme, Swiss Arts Council Pro Helvetia, Nordic-Baltic Mobility Programme for Culture, and Vilnius Academy of Arts. 



Call for contributions to inter-format symposium on hosting and displacing: 
Critical Tourism and Post-Romantic Condition


May 16–19, 2013, Nida, Lithuania 


The international symposium is a part of the Swiss-Lithuanian cooperation project On Hosting and Displacing. The format of the symposium contributions is open: talks, presentations, artistic interventions, workshops, etc.



Call for a Trainee
 

We are looking for interns to work as a) assistant curators, which includes coordination of artist-in-residency and other culture & education program and b) visual communication assistants (photo & video documentation and working with our archive). We offer a unique experience and reference letters for your future career, as well as free accommodation at the Colony between September 2013 and May 2014. You should stay for four to eight months. Apply for Director Position at RUPERT (Lithuania)

RUPERT is a recently established project-based, trans-disciplinary and para-academic educational program based in Vilnius, Lithuania. Each year it engages with a small number of selected participants to assist in developing their projects—exhibitions, art works, insides and outsides of publications, institutional designs, etc. Tutors, visiting lecturers, expertise and ideas are assembled around the participants and their projects to energize and inform them throughout the year.

In 2013 RUPERT is moving to a new building and supplementing its current activities with an international residency program and a public gallery. Hence the need for a director, somebody who could lead RUPERT's current team and develop the institution's new projects, as well as coordinate and build on all of its current activities. The director will be responsible for opening RUPERT's educational program to international applicants in the upcoming years, programming the gallery's activities and setting up 9 studio residencies for artists, researchers and practitioners.

Applicant should be seasoned enough to handle a considerably large institution, preferably with professional background in both curating and education. The position requires experience in administrative matters, fundraising, public communication and international networking, among other things. Applicants should also have a broad range of interests in art, theory, architecture, design, publishing and beyond to oversee the work of young practicing professionals in these fields. This is a full-time position for the duration of at least three years starting at the beginning of 2013. The director will be based in Vilnius.

Inter-Format Symposium On Remoteness In Nida Art Colony

Open Call for Proposals

The symposium is a part of a project of the Baltic-Nordic Network of Remote Art & Residency Centers; however, it is open to participants from all over the world. Through the symposium we hope to build a network of remotely located centers, and learn different approaches to these unique places. The symposium is a 3-day-long event (May 17-20). The contributors are invited to share their experiences working and living in remotely located art & residency centers as directors and cultural managers, and as practicing artists and participants. We are looking forward to proposals from a variety of cultural disciplines on the theme of “remoteness”, with an emphasis on community building, interaction with local inhabitants, and site specificity.

The format: The format is open; proposals can vary from lectures and workshops to performances and site-specific artworks. We are able to provide accommodation and catering to a limited number of participants. Travel expenses are subject to availability.

Deadline: Please send a short proposal (up to 500 words + visual material if needed) by March 31, 2012 to info@nidacolony.lt with subject line “proposal for symposium”.
