All research specializations will be considered, but t a demonstrated interest in the relation of film and media to other art practices of the 20th and 21st centuries, and/or an engagement with the contemporary new media landscape is preferred. The candidate will be responsible for developing and teaching large undergraduate lecture courses on the history of film and media, undergraduate classes for majors in art history and media studies, and graduate seminars for an innovative Ph.D program in art history, which includes a concentration in art practice and also enrolls MFA students in its courses. Faculty in all areas of our department are expected to serve both the MFA and Ph.D programs by giving critiques, supervising independent studies, and serving on graduate committees. The department offers B.A., M.F.A., and Ph.D degrees. Teaching at both undergraduate and graduate levels is expected. Candidate should have a record of excellence in research and teaching. Ph.D. (or close to completion) required. UCSD seeks candidates whose research, teaching, or service have prepared them to contribute to UCSD's commitment to diversity and inclusion in higher education. John D. and Catherine T. MacArthur Foundation's Media, Culture, and Special Initiatives Program
Call for Documentary Film Proposals (USA)
The MacArthur Foundation supports the production and distribution of social-issue documentary films that address important contemporary topics and are intended for a broad audience, particularly in the United States. The program seeks to fund documentary projects that address the significant social challenges of our time or explore important but under-reported topics. Domestic and international topics are welcome, and preference will be given to projects that align with one of MacArthur's grantmaking areas.
Support will be provided primarily for production and post-production activities, and to experienced filmmakers based in the U.S. with track records of completing feature-length films that have been broadcast nationally and internationally and received critical recognition.
Grants will be made only to eligible organizations. MacArthur does not make grants to individuals and does not make grants through fiscal agents or sponsors. In order to qualify for a MacArthur grant, a project must be applied for through a nonprofit or for-profit incorporated entity that can claim it has complete financial and editorial control over the documentary film project for which it is seeking MacArthur support.
Applicants may request any funding amount, but the typical grant range is between $50,000 and $200,000.
For the current round, initial online proposals will be accepted between July 15 and July 31, 2013. If a project is selected as a semi-finalist, the applicant will be notified by September 1 and asked to submit a full proposal and detailed budget. Funding decisions are expected in November.

The Tribeca Film Institute Documentary Fund provides grants and guidance to exceptional filmmakers with character-driven nonfiction works-in-progress that sit outside of the social issue landscape. By supporting work that engages in unexplored perspectives, the fund aims to help take audiences into someone else's environment and spotlight the journey of the individual.
Submissions must be feature-length documentaries with an intended length of at least seventy minutes and should creatively document one or more unique characters. Submissions can be in the advanced stages of development, production, or post-production but must not have aired on any form of television, been screened publicly, or have been distributed in theaters or online prior to February 2013. Submitted films must show enough footage to highlight character, unique access, and storytelling ability.
Foreign language documentaries are eligible but must be subtitled and suitable for an American audience. The program is open to filmmakers anywhere in the world. Applicants must be 18 years of age or older. Student films and documentary short films are not eligible. Grants of at least $10,000 will be awarded. The program will accept submissions beginning September 5, 2012, and close November 5, 2012. All kinds of films including documentary, narrative, experimental, animation, video art and other genres are accepted.
Rules and Suggestions:
- Subtitles in spanish, basque or english are welcomed
- You must fill out one application form per film you submit.
- Each film should be on its own, separate DVD.
- We prefer to receive the videos in MOV or AVI
- You can send more than one DVD (and application form) per package.
-We accept no more than 2 works per author
BIDEODROMO is not mainly a competition, but we have a jury that will decide whats the best film screened. The 1st place author will receive 300 € (vat.incl.) and second best will receive 100 € (vat.incl.)

"Studio 27 is looking for short videos and films for our next program at the Big Muddy Film Festival 34 at Southern Illinois University. We are curating a special out-of-competition screening titled "Utopia?" For this program, we are seeking experimental films and videos (under 30 minutes) that critique or express a fundamental shift in the trajectory of contemporary utopian thought and practice. We are interested in work that explores how utopia, as a projection of what is possible in the future, can be an implicit critique of what is lacking in the present, an indication of how far we have to go to achieve an ideal society. As the notion of dystopia is integrally connected to utopia, we also welcome work that is dystopic in nature. How do the limitations and contradictions of the present drive us toward escape or change?..."

Artist seeking shoes for large scale sculpture.
WHAT: Call for shoes

Bronx-based, multimedia artist Melissa A. Calderon is seeking donations of old shoes to be included in a large scale sculpture. Below is a mock-up of the proposed sculpture. Donations are currently being accepted now through the summer - until the goal of 500 pairs of shoes is met.
The artist is looking specifically for women's high heel or work/dress shoes - dressy flats are acceptable as well.
This work will be done in collaboration with the students at Casita Maria during the artist's residency. The work will then be on exhibit this fall at Hunter College's new Spanish Harlem gallery in its inaugural exhibition curated by Puerto Rican artist Antonio Martorell and Curator Susana Torruella Leval.
If you have a donation for Melissa - please email her and she can arrange for a pick up or be able to let you know of drop-off locations in Brooklyn and The Bronx. She will be needing as many shoes possible - so if you have friends or work colleagues who could donate as well, please forward this message along. Any shoes in good condition after the work is deinstalled from Hunter will be donated to charity.

About the artist
Melissa A. Calderon was born in 1974 and attended CUNY Lehman College in the Bronx. Using installation, photography, sculpture and video, the foundation of her work remains rooted in exploring the gap of disconnection from traditional roles; whether they are gender or culturally based. She has exhibited at El Museo del Barrio, The Bronx Museum of the Arts, The Queens Museum, The Portland Museum of Art, Longwood Art Project and BronxArtSpace among others. Melissa is a PEPATIAN artist; a South Bronx-based organization dedicated to creating, producing and supporting contemporary multi-disciplinary art by Latino and Bronx-based artists. Recently, Melissa was included in Frescos, featuring the work of 50 young contemporary artists from Puerto Rico and is currently working on an exhibition opening Fall 2011 curated by Antonio Martorell and Susana Torruella Leval. Calderon is currently am artist-in-residence at Casita Maria/Residency Unlimited. A self-taught artist, she lives and works in the Bronx.

Casita Maria, headquartered in the Hunts Point section of the South Bronx, was established in 1934 by Claire and Elizabeth Sullivan as the first charitable organization to serve Hispanics in New York City. It remains dedicated to its original mission – to empower youth and their families by creating a culture of learning through high quality social, cultural, and educational opportunities – delivering services to the mostly Hispanic youth, families and seniors of the community it serves. In 2009, Casita Maria inaugurated a state of the art facility encompassing performance spaces, exhibition gallery, dance and music studios, and more on its Simpson Street campus. Bronx-based, multimedia artist Melissa A. Calderon is seeking donations of old shoes to be included in a large scale sculpture. Below is a mock-up of the proposed sculpture. Donations are currently being accepted now through the summer - until the goal of 500 pairs of shoes is met.
The artist is looking specifically for women's high heel or work/dress shoes - dressy flats are acceptable as well.
This work will be done in collaboration with the students at Casita Maria during the artist's residency. The work will then be on exhibit this fall at Hunter College's new Spanish Harlem gallery in its inaugural exhibition curated by Puerto Rican artist Antonio Martorell and Curator Susana Torruella Leval.
If you have a donation for Melissa - please email her and she can arrange for a pick up or be able to let you know of drop-off locations in Brooklyn and The Bronx. She will be needing as many shoes possible - so if you have friends or work colleagues who could donate as well, please forward this message along. Any shoes in good condition after the work is deinstalled from Hunter will be donated to charity.

The Delaware Center for the Contemporary Arts announces the 2011 Call for Entries for the Art & Community Visual Arts Residency Program (AIR) for residencies that will take place from Fall 2012 - Spring 2013.The purpose of this residency program is to allow artists to conceive, implement, and manage a project that engages a community group in meaningful art experiences; encourage the work of innovative artists; and to infuse challenging ideas and issues into the community. Artists in all visual and interdisciplinary art media involving the visual arts are eligible to apply. Certain eligibility requirements apply.

During the residency, an artist lives at the DCCA and makes a full-time commitment to collaborate with an under-served community group for six to eight weeks to create artwork based on issues relevant to the participants' lives. Artists work with the community group approximately 8 -10 hours per week in addition to several hours of additional preparation time necessary for fulfilling the goals of the residency. Residencies typically culminate in an exhibition, performance, or installation at the community site or at the DCCA. The DCCA may also schedule an exhibition of the artist's own work dependent on timing and curatorial review.The DCCA oversees the details of the residency, arranges for the community partnership in cooperation with the artist, seeks funding, and supports the planning and documentation processes; including a catalogue that features residencies with images, project summaries, and artists' biographies.

The Boston Center for the Arts (BCA) is accepting applications for the Artist Residency Program.This fifteen-week, non-traditional, process-oriented residency is awarded to two individuals artists per year (no groups or collaborative pairs). Through a series of community programs jointly developed by the artist and the BCA, it allows artists to connect to the public and explore themes that inform their residency project.
International artists are invited to apply; however, all artists are responsible for their own visa, travel, living and housing expenses.
Financial Support | Artists receive a one-time $2,250 honorarium.
Studio Space | Artists are provided with a private studio in the BCA Artist Studios Building, which houses a community of nearly 50 artists including painters, printmakers, sculptors, filmmakers, craftspeople, writers, performing artists and others.
Public Opportunities | Artists will be expected to present their work to the public, through open studios, workshops and talks.

U.S. ART CRITICS ASSOCIATION (AICA-USA) ANNOUNCES AWARD CEREMONY
The annual AICA awards ceremony, a fixture of the American art world for more than 25 years, will take place this year at a new venue, The Cooper Union for the Advancement of Science and Art, on March 14 at 6 PM. For the first time, the awards will be presented by former AICA honorees, including Shirin Neshat, Martin Puryear, Christo and Linda Nochlin, and the ceremony will include video performances by Sooja Kim and William Kentridge. Many artists, including Marina Abramović and Cai Guo-Qiang, will accompany the curators of their shows as they accept their awards in person. Elizabeth C. Baker, the former editor of Art in America, will receive a special Lifetime Achievement award for her distinguished contribution to the field of criticism. Theme | In My Own Backyard I Can See The World, the theme of this project, is purposefully vague. Our goal is for artists to creatively interpret the theme in their own way.
Sponsorship | In My Own Backyard I Can See The World is a fiscally sponsored project of the New York Foundation for the Arts. In 2010 partial funding was provided by the Zhou-B. Art Center and was an accepted project for Chicago Artist Month, Our City, and Our Studio
Organization Description | A.R.G is a project-based organization, which connects artists and communities who are interested in communication and collaboration on a global scale. The mission of A.R.G is to utilize the personal or local act of art making in combination with global relationships and communication technology. A.R.G’s aim is to create dialog, strengthen understanding, and support awareness of social, political and aesthetic concerns through creative practice.
Project Description | Launched in May 2010, In My Own Backyard I Can See The World brings artists from around the world together in their studios, through communication technology and social networking platforms.
In phase two selected artists will come together in a collective group on-line; to get acquainted though blog posts, Facebook, Skype, email etc. Within the group, each will find one or more artist to collaborate with. This artist(s) may have similar interests, work in a similar style or genre, or be someone who will challenge personal ideas and inspire one’s creative practice in a totally unexpected direction. Since this is an exciting and dynamic process of interaction, everyone involved will need to be committed and active in his or her communication within the group. Each pair or group of artists will have their own category in the A.R.G. blog.
An exhibition will take place in Chicago in the fall of 2011 and will travel internationally. To date, we have had offers for exhibitions in South Africa, Norway and Vienna and Singapore.
Symposium | We are working diligently to seek funding to bring international artists to Chicago for a symposium. Artists will continue work with their partners(s), tour cultural institutions, museums and galleries in Chicago, participate in workshops or panels in cultural organizations or community setting and be exposed to galleries owners and curators prominent in the vibrant Chicago Art scene.
Expectations from Artists Who Are Selected | Have web access, a Facebook page and Skype account for ease of communication. To be interactive with the artists you are collaborating with.
Post progress, thoughts, images, sketches, and snippets of conversations on the web blog a minimum of two times a month. This can be an individual or collective post from your group or both. If English is not your first language you can post in your native language with a link to Google translate.
Share the website and blog posts on all of your social networks.
Be respectful of deadlines. At times we will ask you for statements or photos for features on the website or for press information. It is important to provide this information when asked to enhance the project and your visibility as a contributor to the project.
Serve on one committee of your choice. As a collective group we have access to many different skill sets. The more skills we can utilize the better for everyone! Details will be provided if you are selected and ”the committee” will not be a tedious experience.
Submission Guidelines | In My Own Backyard I Can See the World, is currently seeking artists from the USA and Internationally. Any location as long as you feel you can meet the expectations outlined above.
All Visual Art mediums will be considered: Painting, Drawing, Sculpture, Installation, Film, Video, Photography and Performance, or any combination. Musicians, Writers, and Dancers will also be considered if you are open to collaboration with a visual artist(s).

International low-residency MFA/PhD

Transart Institute offers postgraduate programs for working artists in a highly individualized format The innovative MFA program consists of three intensive summer residencies with lectures, workshops, critiques, seminars, performances and exhibitions in Europe and two winter residencies in New York. In the four semesters between residencies, students create their own course of study realizing individual art and research projects with the support of faculty and self-chosen artist mentors wherever they work and live. The MPhil/PhD is a 3–4 year full time degree program with an average work commitment of 30 hours per week. The Degree is only offered for practice-based research (creative work) accompanied by a written thesis that contextualizes the work.
The Institute’s programs are geared towards the development of a sustainable artistic praxis rather than training in certain media or genres, challenging students to think conceptually and work creatively in new ways. Current students work with animation, curating, digital media, film, gaming, graphic design, installation, painting, performance, photography, robotics, sculpture, sound, text, video, virtual reality.

SYRIAN INTERNATIONAL FESTIVAL—CALL FOR SUBMISSIONS

AllArtNow, founded in 2005 in Damascus, is a private initiative to support contemporary Syrian arts - especially installation and video art, and to network with other organizations (in Syria and abroad) to cooperate in different activities, such as exhibitions, workshops, and exchanges.
AllArtNow is open to artists from different regions of the world to work and be in contact with local artists. By collaborating with others the current ecology of the arts in Syria can be improved.
In its 2011 program "Living Spaces" AllArtNow will be showing a selection of artworks including video, multi-media installations, performance, street art.

GHANA: COMMUNITY ARTS IN FOCUS
WHAT: 2nd Kumasi Biennial Symposium: Community Arts in Focus

The 3-week event will focus on community arts practice, as a response to the growing problem of widening gap between contemporary African artist and the rural community. We will use Kumasi City-Abetenim rural sites such as market places, local schools, village centers, and others as laboratories for workshops, artistic interventions, site-specific installations, lectures and other community-based approaches from around the world. Thus, we invite individual or group submissions for community theatre, media arts, readings, film screening, slide shows, open studios, visual activism, musical performances, community design, social architecture and others to allow the rural community to become acquainted with international contemporary artistic practice.

CACIS "EL FORN DE LA CALÇ"

Cacis “El forn de la calç” in Calders (Catalonia- Spain) open an international call to artists for to stay in their residence and conduct a research project during 2011.
1.CACIS “El forn de la calç” hosts visual arts projects, performing arts, performance, thinking, intervention in the landscape and search for new languages related to sustainability and protecting the natural environment. (Not exclusively artistic)
The residence in CACIS has basic conditions for research and study in nature, for the artist to find the conditions of space, and equipment suitable concentration.
The space is located at 5 km from the village of Calders and 2.5 km of village of Artes. The city of Manresa is about 25 minutes and enjoys privileged views of Montserrat and the Pyrenees.
2. The residences include accommodation of artists (maximum 4) and work space for a minimum of 7 days and a maximum of 90 days.
Do not include the displacement or diets.
3. The Center can help artists to make the necessary contacts with local people and suppliers of materials and services related to their research and enhance liaison with the social environment with the preparation of workshops and seminars related to proposed projects.
4. The artists who wish to pursue this call should emailing the following documents:
+ Contact of project leader
+ Number of participants
+ Timetable for which residence is sought alternative option (if any)
+ Spaces are required (accommodation / work room / outdoors).
+ A letter of intent with an explicit text in which the artist is committed, if elected, to make residence in the requested extension.
+ A description of the project (maximum 3 sheets with a maximum 3-JPG-format photos)
+ A short CV (max. 1 page)
5. Applications for 2011 can be submitted until 30 November 2010.
6. The jury is composed of professionals and the team of the Center.
7. Resolution of the call December 30, 2010.
The result of the call will be communicated by email to stakeholders and made public in CACIS website.
