Call for Artists
SlowArt Productions presents the annual group thematic exhibition, A Show of
Heads. The exhibition will be held at the Limner Gallery from October 19 -
November 23, 2013. This exhibition
will include all interpretations and portrayals of the human head, from
the traditional to the abstract and conceptual. All visions of the head,
including partial and multiple heads, will be reviewed and considered.
The competition is open to all artists, national and international, working in
all media. All forms of painting, drawing, sculpture, photography, graphics,
digital and installation art, video, etc. are eligible. Winning artists will be featured in a group exhibition at the Limner Gallery,
October 19 - November 23, 2013. The exhibition will also be displayed on the
Limner Gallery web site. One artist will be awarded a two page display in Direct
Art Volume #21, Fall 2014 issue. Two artists will be
awarded a single page display.
Entry fee is $35.
Deadline is August 31, 2013.

Electricity is Magic Gallery
Call for Entries
Electricity is Magic (EiM) was founded in 2009 by Eric Powell and Matt Griffin, primarily as a vehicle to release their own experimental electronic and electroacoustic music. Quickly, however, it grew to be a curatorial project, and, since late 2009, EiM have been putting on art and performance events throughout North America.
EiM has expanded and will be presenting gallery shows at its (semi-)permanent home at the EiM Gallery, located at 715 Richmond St. W. in Toronto, ON.
The aim of the gallery space is to continue to present works that don’t necessarily fit comfortably within a traditional gallery context. Artists will be given the challenge of presenting work which engages with or reacts to the living space of the apartment. They are particularly interested in work which employs some aspect of technological mediation, but not necessarily as the impetus for the piece. They are also interested in slow art, which not only requests, but often demands, and always reminds us of the pleasure in sustained viewing of a particular work.
Call for works is ongoing and they invite submissions from individual artists, collectives, or curators to submit proposals for the EiM Gallery. Their space is non-traditional, and as such, they have some unique parameters for artists to contend with.

The organization CULTURESHUTDOWN is calling museums and
galleries worldwide to participate in their important international cultural
awareness campaign. This campaign is a reaction to the acute crisis affecting
major cultural institutions in Bosnia-Herzegovina. The safety of precious

CULTURESHUTDOWN calls on you and other museums across the
globe to demonstrate your solidarity with threatened Bosnian cultural
institutions by symbolically “erasing” one precious artwork or artifact,
rendering it inaccessible for the Day of Museum Solidarity.

and fill out the form to receive the CULTURESHUTDOWN logo tape to display.
On March 1, place the yellow barricade tape in front of the
chosen object (ranging from a dinosaurs skeleton to a painting, depending on
your collection and your choice). Take a picture of the “crossed out” object
and send it to info@cultureshutdown.net. The “crossed out” artifact should be
publicly visible in your institution from March 1 – 3 (customizable sign
available on their website as well). The
collected pictures of Museum Solidarity across the world will be posted on the
CULTURESHUTDOWN website on Monday March 4, the scheduled Day of Museum
Solidarity. As many museums are closed on Mondays, our global campaign will
take the form of a virtual collective exhibition on CULTURESHUTDOWN website.
