TransCultural Exchange is pleased to launch this section of its website dedicated to listings of opportunities for artists.
With the now cliched truth that the world is becoming more global - with boundaries growing ever more porous and the rapid exchange of ideas, information and technologies between individuals increasingly common - it is crucial for artists to be engaged in this new reality. Residences - which can be as short as a week and as long as 2 to 3 years - offer an ideal entry into this new international sphere.
International residencies often attract today’s new wave of artists: someone for whom geographic boundaries are not fixed; someone who functions as “a curator/project manager/artist/website designer.” (NETSA) Residencies, thus, not only provide new venues for creating, promoting, selling, exhibiting and engaging in the 21st century’s trans-global society; but they also put artists in direct contact with this new wave of artists who are also international curators, organizers and critics.
As always the best source of listings for international artist-in-residencies remains Trans Artists' website, Trans Artists is an independent foundation that informs artists of any discipline about international artist-in-residence programs and other opportunities for artists to stay and work elsewhere 'for art's sake'.
