DESCRIPTION:
Sølyst Artist in Residency Centre - SAIR - has been established by VAK -'The Art Worshops of West Sealand .' VAK is an important element in the SAIR programme because of their experience with artists working in the production of a broad range of mediums. The accommodation and working studios that SAIR offers artists during their residency gives those taking part the enriching opportunity of intercultural dialogue.
Duration: 1 or 2 months between April and October
Technical Information: The Art Workshops of West Sealand - VAK - are situated very close to Sølyst. There you will find the facilities for production of mainly sculpture. They have a wood workshop, metal work shop, bronze casting, glas casting, table for silk print and space for large productions.
Studio Information: Sølyst was build in 1862. The small castle was originally used as a hunting lodge; it was later occupied by a women's home, an orphanage and most recently a school.
Accommodation Information: Inside the castle there is 15 furnished bedrooms, 1 large room for lectures and talks, common room, library,office, bathroom, kitchen, 2 shared computers and printer, dishwasher, washing machine and dryer, wireless internet connection and 3 bikes.
Paid by host: The visiting artists will be offered free accommodation at the Sølyst Castle; a private bedroom, a private studio, free access to the VAK workshops and a monthly fee of 1342 euro.
Location: The Sølyst castle is situated close to the train station in Jyderup app. 1 hour from Copenhagen. It is surrounded by woods and has the best view in West Sealand directly at the lake Skarridsø. Not far from Sølyst is the best beach in West Sealand, at the nature resort Vesterlyng.
