Call for Applications – Artist Residency Program

PROGRAM OVERVIEW
The Boston Center for the Arts (BCA) is accepting applications for the Artist Residency Program.This fifteen-week, non-traditional, process-oriented residency is awarded to two individuals artists per year (no groups or collaborative pairs). Through a series of community programs jointly developed by the artist and the BCA, it allows artists to connect to the public and explore themes that inform their residency project.

International artists are invited to apply; however, all artists are responsible for their own visa, travel, living and housing expenses.

Financial Support | Artists receive a one-time $2,250 honorarium.

Studio Space | Artists are provided with a private studio in the BCA Artist Studios Building, which houses a community of nearly 50 artists including painters, printmakers, sculptors, filmmakers, craftspeople, writers, performing artists and others.
   
Public Opportunities | Artists will be expected to present their work to the public, through open studios, workshops and talks.

Timeline
Submission Deadline: Friday, June 10th (NOTE: received by BCA)
Notification: Monday, July 18th
Artist Residency #1: Tuesday, September 6, 2011 – Sunday, December 18, 2011
Artist Residency #2    : Monday, March 5, 2012 – Sunday, June 17, 2012

HOW TO APPLY
A review panel will select two artists. Projects will be selected based on:
     • Excellence of proposed projects and public engagement ideas;
     • Quality of past work based on submitted work samples;
     • Career history from narrative biography and resume.

1.) Proposal (500 words max)
• Description of the work– include ideas for public engagement and intended use of studio space and intern.
• Residency goals and how BCA residency will help you achieve them.   
• Overall Project Timeline – include work that may be completed before and after the residency.       

2.) Artist Personal Statement (250 words max)

3.) Narrative Biography (250 words max)

5.) Work Samples and List
All materials must be submitted on CD, which must be clearly marked with applicant’s name. Incomplete applications and/or work samples that do not function or follow the submission guidelines will not be considered. Materials are non-returnable and may be used for marketing purposes should you be selected as an artist resident. 

Option 1 – Digital Images Only
     • Include one CD with eight (8) images of your work.        
     • JEGs only (minimum resolution 300dpi,1027 x        768 pixels).
     • Image list must include name of the JPEG, title, date and media.
     • Images must be representative of your current work and can include any concept sketches or images for this project (if applicable).

Option 2 – Video/Audio for time-based media only
     • Artist may submit any number of video/audio clips totaling four (4) minutes on CD.
     • Video files must be QuickTime compatible;        audio files must be iTunes compatible.
     • Works list must include file name, title, date and media.

Option 3 – Combination of Images and Video
• Artists may submit four (4) digital images and two (2) minutes of video/audio according to above
   specifications.
