Call for a new Artist-in Residence and Assistantship Opportunity on Martha’s Vineyard

WHAT: Residency
WHERE: Martha's Vineyard, USA
DEADLINE: June 15,  2011
WHEN: September 1 -14, 2011
WHO: Artists of all disciplines

Announcing a new short-term, artist-in-residence on Martha’s Vineyard to create site-specific works, using the existing landscape, including – if desired - a collection of large {~30” in diameter} tree trunks.

The residency will run from September 1 -14, 2011  and includes housing and some supplies.

In addition, artists interested in residencies, but lacking the experience to apply for more established programs are encouraged to apply as assistants to the artists-in-residence. Sculpture students or those with extensive wood-working skills preferred. Housing will be provided.

Artists of all disciplines and nationalities are invited to apply for the positions of artist-in-residence. Work with wood and/or the environment is not necessary to apply for a residency. Instead, artists are encouraged to see this as a unique opportunity to explore new directions in their work.

If interested in a residency or assistantship, please send 6 images of your work (6 slides or images on a CD), a resume and statement, indicating why this opportunity interests you, a possible work plan/proposal and what you hope to gain from the experience.

Applications must be received (not postmarked by) June 15,  2011  by email to msherman@transculturalexchange.org or by mail to
Mary Sherman
516 E. 2nd Street #30
Boston, MA 02127
Artists will be notified by: July 1, 2011

PLEASE NOTE: Artists should be aware of the problem of lyme disease on the Vineyard (caused by deer ticks); and proper precautions should be undertaken to keep from contracting the illness.
