Apothiki Art Center Artist In Residence Program

WHAT: Artists In Residence Program: Call for proposals 2010-2011
WHERE: Apothiki Art Center - Paros - Cyclades - Greece

WHEN: program starts April 2010
WHO: artists, scholars, art managers

DESCRIPTION
The Apothiki Art Center on the Cycladic island of Paros in Greece and the Apothiki Foundation for Contemporary Art, a Brussels based non-for-profit organization, are celebrating 5 years of activities and preparing the Artist in Residency Program for the coming two years.

The Residency program is part of a wider range of activities organized in the art center, such as exhibitions, concerts and seminars and has been rightly called a space for the living art and the art of living.

Artists, scholars, art managers and critics are invited to submit their application for a 2 to 4 week residency to take place in 2010 or 2011. The program will start in April 2010. Artists that like to organize a small ‘group’ residency can submit a joint application.

Applications will be reviewed and evaluated on the basis of originality and commitment to the arts as well as on a profound motivation to spend some time in this unique environment.

Selected artists will be given the opportunity to make maximum use of the 180 m2 gallery-space and show their work at the end of their stay or, when preferred, to work ‘with open doors’. They will have the opportunity to meet artists who are living and working on the island and visit their studios and workshops.

Specific services such as publication of posters, invitations, catering for openings etc can be provided at cost. Transportation is the responsibility of the applicant but technical assistance can be arranged.

We work closely together with a wide range of accommodation facilities in all price categories including a number of small and low cost hotels and self catered studios, uniquely situated and widely available out of high season. We are ready to assist you in making a choice according to your budget and personal preferences.

APPLICATION PROCESS
-Selection of relevant documents, enclosures and short personal motivation statement should reach us by email, either in English (preferable), Greek, Dutch, German, French or Spanish.

-Applicants will receive an answer within 4 weeks. Selected artists will be asked to confirm their interest by payment of a non refundable deposit of 25 %. Balance of fee is due 8 weeks prior to start of residency.

-Applicants have to assure their own funding for travel, lodging and use of space since Apothiki is unable to provide funding.

-Rates depend on time of the year, length of stay and, when applicable, type of technical assistance required. More information, including availability and residencies scheduled, can be found on our Website.

-For 2010, 5 residencies for a total of 4 months have already been scheduled, welcoming artists from Switzerland, the US, Canada and Italy.
