The Center for Contemporary Arts (Slovenia) is publishing an open call for collaboration in the AIR CELEIA 2012 program. The selected artist will be offered a free two-month stay in their residential flat (which is located in the city center in the immediate vicinity of the Center for Contemporary Arts and the local artistic district; the residence includes a kitchen, a studio, a bedroom, a bathroom and Internet) and a grant of € 600 per month, with travel expenses to be covered by the artist. The Center for Contemporary Arts will arrange for the artist to connect with the city and establish contacts with the local artistic community as well as get acquanited with the artistic events in the local and wider environment.

Application deadline is March 1, 2012. The selected artists will be informed about the decision by the end of March. In 2012, AIR CELEIA offers two residential stay periods between April and September.

AIR CELEIA program is conceived on the basis of a reciprocal model that enables the residential artist to become acquainted with, get in contact with, exchange experiences with and get involved in the local artistic community, offering at the same time local artists the possibility of establishing new connections and forms of collaboration, or of a potential presentation of themselves and their work internationally.

Inter-Format Symposium On Remoteness In Nida Art Colony

The symposium is a part of a project of the Baltic-Nordic Network of Remote Art & Residency Centers; however, it is open to participants from all over the world. Through the symposium we hope to build a network of remotely located centers, and learn different approaches to these unique places. The symposium is a 3-day-long event (May 17-20). The contributors are invited to share their experiences working and living in remotely located art & residency centers as directors and cultural managers, and as practicing artists and participants. We are looking forward to proposals from a variety of cultural disciplines on the theme of “remoteness”, with an emphasis on community building, interaction with local inhabitants, and site specificity.

The format: The format is open; proposals can vary from lectures and workshops to performances and site-specific artworks. We are able to provide accommodation and catering to a limited number of participants. Travel expenses are subject to availability.

New Technological Art Award 2012

The New Technological Art Award is an international art competition of the Liedts-Meesen Foundation, that focuses on the contribution of new technologies in the world of art.

Contest Details:
All living artists, regardless of their origin, can present their candidacy for art works less than two years old, but which may already have been exhibited. Each artist may submit only one work. The contest is international and uses English as main language. The registration can only be made on line by using an application form available on this website: www.ntaa.be/en/inschrijvingsformulier.php. These must be submitted by no later than March 31st, 2012. All later applications will be rejected.

An international jury will select 20 projects from all candidates before May 1st, 2012. This same jury will determine locations for the different works of art. These projects will be realized in order to be exhibited from September 15 till November 18, 2012.

Liedts-Meesen Foundation will award a cash prize of 5,000 EUR. The jury is entitled, besides this prize, to honor an artist with an honorable mention. There is also a prize from the public linked to the contest. This entitles the winner to a presentation after the contest in a European museum. The prizes of the Brussels Capital Region and the Flemish Community are not yet known.

2012 Cheng Long Wetlands International Environmental Art Project in Taiwan “What’s for Dinner?”

The exhibition will stay on display through 2012, and we hope the artworks can continue to be enjoyed into the next year.

Artists from all countries are invited to send a proposal for a site-specific outdoor sculpture installation to be created during a 25-day artist in residency in Cheng Long, a small rural village near the southwestern coast of Taiwan in Kouhu Township, Yunlin County. This art project is an expansion of the 2010 and 2011 Cheng Long Wetlands International Environmental Art Projects, going into the Village as well as the Wetlands. This year the selected artists will work with elementary school children and community residents to create large-scale sculpture installations focused on the theme of “What’s for Dinner?”

The 2012 art project will help to promote awareness of how our food is produced and the importance of sustainable and organic practices in aquaculture. Artworks will be site specific and located on, in and around existing village structures, old houses, abandoned buildings, vacant
lots, underneath the roadway, beside the highway and in Cheng Long Wetlands, a wetlands nature preserve created by rising waters and land subsidence. The artworks will be made with recycled and natural materials that are part of the daily lives of the village residents. The artworks should be made to last for two years or more. Artists will work alongside other international artists and Taiwanese artists and with children and village residents in Cheng Long, Kouhu Township, Yunlin County, Taiwan.

2012 Voies Off Prize

No restriction regarding age or nationality.

Participants in the Voies Off Prize are: all amateur or professional photographers, artists, associations, collectives, groups, galleries, agencies, or schools... using photography as their medium.

A commission will select the applications presenting originality and a personal approach. The works must be organized as a series showing coherent thinking developed through a theme, a personal vision. The main criterion considered by the commission will be a personal and creative vision.

For the past 17 years, Voies Off has offered an alternative approach to emerging contemporary photography, its particularities, its evolutions, and its areas of resistance.

Voies Off night projections during the opening week of the Rencontres d’Arles festival (first full week in July) have become an international reference for the discovery of emerging authors and the alternative venue that it creates for international photographic creation.

Year after year, the selected themes have met the evolutions of our contemporary world with a critical eye. Over twenty different nationalities are represented at each festival. Every year over sixty candidates are selected for the programme of the night-projections.

Every July, the Voies Off prize is awarded by a jury of renowned professionals to an artist for the clarity of his/her vision and the high quality of his/her work. The current amount of the prize is 2,500 euros.

Stoff: Stockholm Fringe Fest 2012

Who can apply?
Stoff is a festival that aims to support and promote cutting edge theatre and performance making. Stoff is foremost focused on promoting artists who have not yet found their feet in the industry however they also welcome submissions from established groups/individuals who promote innovation in their artistic work. Stoff 2012 will take place on outdoor and indoor stages in central and metropolitan Stockholm. Artists will get the opportunity to showcase their talent in front of a new audience, meet artists from around globe and partake in (or lead) workshops related to their craft.
A special ‘Young Stoff’ stage will be dedicated to younger artists in between the ages 13-23 years of age.

eva International and Annie Fletcher would like to invite artists from all over the world to propose new or existing works for inclusion in eva International 2012. Proposals can be made in any medium. Selected artists will be supported to produce new or show existing works in Limerick City, Ireland from 19 May – 12 August 2012. Proposals should be made through the online submission process.

Supporting materials can either be uploaded through the online submission process (deadline 31 January 2012), sent by post to Limerick City Gallery of Art (to arrive on or before 31 January 2012), or delivered by hand to Limerick City Gallery of Art (on 31 January 2012 only) or Fire Station Artists' Studios, Dublin (on 31 January 2012 only). The I-Park Residency Program

• The program is offered free of charge to accepted/invited applicants, though there is a $30 application processing fee.

• I-Park provides a private bedroom, private studio, artists’ meal program (most, though not all, food is provided) and some shared amenities: library, Common Area, inviting artists’ kitchen, wireless internet.

• The only major cost to the artist is transportation to and from the area (if you’re not driving, you get a pick up at the beginning of the session and a drop-of at the end at a Connecticut airport or bus/train station).

• Four $750 travel grants in 2012 will be offered to international artists who’ve been offered residencies by their respective selection juries (separate, subsequent competitive process conducted by the grant committee).

• I-Park supports and has separate selection panels in the following disciplines:
– Music Composition/Sound Sculpture
– Visual Arts (including sculpture, environmental art,
installation, memorial art)
– Moving Image (including video and film art, documentary,
animation, virtual reality, game/interactive art)

UNIDEE in Residence International Programme

Programme:

Cittadellarte-Fondazione Pistoletto, a non-profit organisation founded in 1998 in Biella (Italy), is glad to present a new edition of UNIDEE in Residence International Programme.

The project, which has run since 2000, focuses on the analysis of the relationship between art and society and investigates methodologies of creative interventions able to activate projects for a responsible social transformation.

The aim of UNIDEE in Residence is to bring together committed visual/video animators, artists, photographers, architects from all over the word for four months; their interaction and collaboration result in a series of projects claiming for a socially responsible change in society.

During the programme, residents develop their projects, live and work together, exchange ideas, attend lectures and project presentations. Moreover, Cittadellarte arranges opportunities to meet and collaborate with experts as well as local partners, such as companies, neighbourhoods, schools, institutions and councils.

At the end of UNIDEE in Residence, an exhibition is held at Cittadellarte-Fondazione Pistoletto, where the projects are presented to the public.

The 15th Pan American Puppetry Arts institute - A one month Residency in Ummanz Germany.

Dragon Dance Theatre has been invited by the Ruegen Surfhotel located in northern Germany, on the Island of Ummanz, to organize our 15^th Pan American Puppetry Arts institute during the summer of 2012. This is a cultural exchange project that will last one month. We are inviting all artists from different parts of the world to join us in this adventure. It will be an intense journey as we collectively share ideas, live together, and create a performance piece to be presented to the public. We will show our latest techniques in large mask-making and together we will develop each scene using the drama techniques and socialization of the characters. We encourage the participants to share their skills and work in all aspects of the process; mask and puppet building, creating a staged drama, music, improvising the texts, making the props, painting, as well as scenography, stage management and acting .

You will develop a sense of how the theatre works as a whole.

Kosice 2013 - European Capital of Culture

In the frame of European Capital of Culture the NGO Košice 2013 is running an international Artist-in-Residence-program for emerging artists from all over the world and out of all artistic disciplines and expressions. Residents are given the possibility to work in the inspiring environment of Košice's singular cultural surrounding to realize art projects, collaborate with the agile local art scene and present themselves to the local and national public.

The residency program has three goals:
1. Support the creative energy of every invited artist and give her/him the chance to work in a new and special environment to find (new) artistic ways to express.
2. Stimulate the art scene in Košice, in the region and in whole Slovakia. Support the dialogue as well as the confrontation of the residency artists with local artists and the wide public.
3. Create/strengthen a beneficial environment for the development of innovative and international contemporary art projects with international and local participants.

The team will introduce every artist in the social environment of the city and the region and help them to build up networks and collaborations with local artists. Public events like artist talks, projections, workshops, open studios, will be organised to give every artist the chance to introduce and present themselves to a wide public. A final project/exhibition will show the working process during the stay of each artist.

Košice 2013 provides:

Worcester Polytechnic Institute (WPI) seeks an accomplished artist to create a work of public art during our inaugural artist residency to be held in Spring 2012.

The goals of this project are to:

• Create a unique, site-specific artwork in any medium (sculpture, installation, mural, video, performance, etc.) that will enliven a public space at WPI
• Promote curiosity and dialogue among the diverse members of our community
• Engage in an on-site artistic process in collaboration with WPI students and faculty
• Create artwork that is safe and easily maintained for the duration of the installation period
• Proposals that creatively link art with science and/or technology are encouraged, but not required

The chosen artist will visit the WPI campus for a week-long residency in April 2012, during which time their artwork will be realized and installed in a public location. A team of WPI students with experience in the arts will assist the visiting artist in the preparation and installation of the finished artwork. A WPI faculty member will serve as the liaison between the artist, students, and staff. The residency will culminate in a public event for the presentation of the new work, as well as an artist’s talk to introduce and contextualize the project.

• Demonstrated experience fabricating and installing site-specific public artworks

Blue Sky Project is a juried, international summer artist residency committed to producing ambitious and meaningful works of contemporary art. It includes a strong youth development component and an emphasis on art making as community-building.

Blue Sky Project invites professional artists from around the world and Dayton-area teens to create new works of contemporary art. This eight-week Artist-in-Residence Program hosts artists who have a demonstrated commitment to innovation and exploration and are interested in collaborating with fellow artists and young people as a means of creating new works. In support of artistic experimentation and collaboration, we organize small groups of local teens eager to work with a professional artist, provide fees and materials to artists, and employ our facilities and staff to address the creative needs of our Blue Sky Project teams.

Past resident artists include 2-D & 3-D visual artists, installation artists, performance artists, sound artists, musicians, video artists, filmmakers and writers.

Since its inception in 2005, work produced at Blue Sky Project has been exhibited at museums and galleries in the United States, Europe and Asia, been featured in The New Yorker, The New York Times, Art in America and FiberArt, and sold in New York, Chicago and Houston.

"Studio 27 is looking for short videos and films for our next program at the Big Muddy Film Festival 34 at Southern Illinois University. We are curating a special out-of-competition screening titled "Utopia?" For this program, we are seeking experimental films and videos (under 30 minutes) that critique or express a fundamental shift in the trajectory of contemporary utopian thought and practice. We are interested in work that explores how utopia, as a projection of what is possible in the future, can be an implicit critique of what is lacking in the present, an indication of how far we have to go to achieve an ideal society. As the notion of dystopia is integrally connected to utopia, we also welcome work that is dystopic in nature. How do the limitations and contradictions of the present drive us toward escape or change?..."

The COAL PRIZE Art&Environment reward each year a project about the environment by a contemporary artist. The winner is chosen by a jury of personalities from the worlds of contemporary art, research, ecology and sustainable development, out of 10 finalists selected from an international call for entries.

The COAL prize is an opportunity to promote the entries and artists involved and to demonstrate the creative potential of fine arts with regards to the environment and related issues. The aim of the prize is to encourage artists to focus on environmental issues and helping to foster a culture of ecology.

Special topic 2012 : the COAL PRIZE 2012 will reward entries that focus on RURAL ISSUES and FARMING.

The COAL Prize, worth 10 000 euros, was launched in 2010 by the French association COAL, the coalition for art and sustainable development. It comes under the auspices of the french Ministry of Culture and Communication, The French Ministry of Ecology and Sustainable Development, the National Centre of Fine Arts (CNAP), and enjoys the support of Le Laboratoire, PwC and a private benefactor.

The award of the Coal Prize 2012 attended by the artist finalists and personalities from the world of art and sustainable development, will happen in march 2012 at Le Laboratoire.

“A BURNT-OUT CASE?”

For the show “A Burnt-Out Case?” at the NGBK from 09/01 to 10/14/2012, we therefore invite artists, artists’ groups, activists and interdisciplinary projects to cast a view from the future back to the present and create complex perspectives on burnout – not only as an individual but above all as a social symptom. We are looking for disturbing, contrary, illogical, associative positions and strategies that evade appropriation and victim discourses and instead describe a utopian and fictitious future. Will we still be familiar with burnout in the year 2062, and how will the exhausted society of 2012 be remembered? Are there signs of learning from the effects of neoliberal work models? What kind of alternative concepts exist?

We are interested in positions that approach the theme of burnout in an associative manner or reflect on own subjective viewpoints.

What we find exciting in this context are politically motivated statements, poetic views,and process-related forms of work that are further developed during the course of the exhibition or that directly deal with artistic production. Participatory strategies, performative approaches, and works intervening in public space are just as welcome as classical forms of expression. One focus of the show is on the perspective of artists and creatives in their precarised surroundings: Particularly in the arts business we discern the willingness to at all times do the utmost and enable what appears unworkable.

The jury’s decision will be presented by 31 March, 2012. The selected artists will receive up to 1,400 euros incl. VAT (fee and material) to realise their work, which they will present at the NGBK Berlin from 09/01 to 10/14/2012.

Embracing Our Differences invites artists, photographers, professionals, amateurs, teachers and students to participate in its 9th annual visual art exhibit celebrating diversity.

National and international submissions are encouraged. 39 artists will be selected for the exhibit.

The Embracing Our Differences exhibit will be displayed throughout the months of April and May 2012 at Island Park along Sarasota's beautiful bayfront. Since 2004, the exhibit has been viewed by more than 1,000,000 visitors. The exhibit will contain 39 billboard-sized (16 feet wide by 12 1/2 feet high) images of the selected artworks. In the judges' discretion, an additional six 'honorable mention' selections may be made.

Final selections will be chosen based on artistic excellence in reflection of the theme 'Embracing Our Differences'. The art-work will also be evaluated on how effectively it will read outdoors when enlarged to billboard size 16 feet wide by 12 1/2 feet high. Artists are encouraged to use bold saturated colors and strong lines.

Final selections will be made by a 3-judge panel of professional artists, curators and art professionals. A total of $3,000.00 in awards will be presented.

The mission of Embracing Our Differences is to use art as a catalyst for creating awareness and promoting the value of diversity, the benefits of inclusion and the significance of the active rejection of hatred and prejudice.

The Künstlerhaus Bethanien, where the Berliner Künstlerprogramm has 12 studios at its disposal, plus the use of a printing workshop , is one of the principal locations. The daadgalerie in the heart of Berlin-Mitte at Checkpoint Charlie is a venue for art, literature and music. It hosts presentations of the DAAD guests on a regular basis: art exhibitions, readings and composers’ portraits.

A jury annually selects approximately 20 international guests for the Berliner Künstlerprogramm. Artists in the fields of literature, film and music may apply. You will find the application forms here. In the field of visual arts, a jury recommends artists for invitation.

Arte Association’s Artists’ Residency SUMU offers one- to three-month residencies in 2013 to new media artists, working in the intersection of new technologies and contemporary art. The residency is located in Turku, in the South-western coast of Finland. Artists are provided with free accommodation and studio, and a possibility of exhibiting their work either in Sumu’s studio space which is adjoined to Arte’s gallery Titanik or in another public space in Turku or on Sumu’s website. The artists must fund all their living expenses including food and transportation. Arte can help the artists with material costs up to 200 euros depending on the application.

Application instructions

Please prepare an individual submission, including:

- short, clear & realistic project plan (max one page)

- short artist statement (max one page)

- CV (max one page) plus artist’s homepage

- DVD / CD including a maximum of 10 minutes worth of samples in PC format

ART342 offers 14-week and 6-week residencies to emerging and established artists, writers and composers. Studios, a kiln and basic equipment are available for most visual artists, including ceramicists. Quiet spaces exist for creative or scholarly writers. The composer’s studio is outfitted with a Steinway B, computers and software for writing and recording.

Awards for accepted applicants include 24-hour access to free studios, living space and a modest stipend. Residents are responsible for personal expenses and travel to and from the site.
Situated in a semi-rural area, ART342 is just 6 miles north of Historic Old Town in Fort Collins. Up to 7 studios and 5 living spaces are maintained as private places for creative work. Pets, children, visitors and partners are strongly discouraged.

Leipzig, Germany - Monument to Freedom and Unity: Competition to be conducted for the Monument to the Peaceful Revolution 1989

Artists, architects and landscape architects from all over the world are invited to submit an application by 16th December 2011 at the latest. 40 applicants/teams will then be chosen to take part in the restricted competition according to RPW 2008 (guide lines for planning competitions). The selection of participants will be carried out by the client of Leipzig in consultation with a selection committee consisting of external experts.

On 9th October 2011, the 22nd anniversary of the Peaceful Revolution of 1989, the City of Leipzig will hold an open application process for a Monument to Freedom and Unity. "The 9th October 1989 moves us all," said Burkhard Jung, Lord Mayor of Leipzig. "On that day in Leipzig world history was made. The non-violent march of 70.000 around the Promenadenring marked the break through. The Peaceful Revolution strengthened the self-deliverance of Eastern Europe and established the unity of Germany".

The financial framework for the whole project is 6.5 million euro, of which 5 million euro will be from the Government and 1.5 million euro from the Free State of Saxony. A gross amount of 175.000 euro will be available for the competition.

The Henry Moore Institute, which is part of Henry Moore Foundation invites applications for the following fellowship programmes in 2012–2013:

Research Fellowships - intended for artists, scholars and curators, working on historic and contemporary sculpture using the Institute's library, archive of sculptors' papers and the collection of the Leeds Art Gallery. Up to four fellows will be given the opportunity to spend a month in Leeds to develop their own research.

Senior Fellowships - intended to give established scholars (working on any aspect of sculpture) time and space to develop a research project free from their usual work commitments. Two senior fellowships, for periods of between four and six weeks will be offered.

Both fellowships provide accommodation, travel expenses and a per diem.

The Institute offers the possibility of presenting the finished research in published form, as a seminar, or as a small exhibition.

Artist Residency Programme 2012

Established in early summer 2011, the two-year mobility and artistic exchange dance programme E-MOTIONAL Bodies & Cities is currently launching a new strand of activities – the international ArtistNe(s)t Residencies.

The programme aims to offer support to the development of new work by young and mid-career choreographers and is addressed to artists based in the 6 participating countries of the project: Romania, Cyprus, Ireland, Latvia, United Kingdom, and Turkey.

The residency programme is inspired from and plans to continue and expand the work started by the ArtistNe(s)t artist-in-residence network in Romania set up by Gabriela Tudor and the Swiss Cultural Program in Romania in 2006, a unique international residency programme for contemporary arts in the region.

The choreographers, either alone or together with a collaborator of their choice (dancer, visual artist, manager, etc.), will be granted a four-week residency to work on an ongoing project, start a new project or collaborate with local artists. Special attention will be given to projects matching the theme of the project and to collaborations and exchanges with local artistic communities.

Travel costs, per diem, accommodation and rehearsal space for the entire residency period are provided, together with a fee per project awarded.
The host organisation will facilitate contacts with the local artistic community, informal presentations and meetings, or the organisation of workshops open to local artists. In exchange, the invited artists will give warm-up classes for local dancers, lead dance workshops for professionals or interested audiences, or hold video-lectures on their own artistic work. Each residency will close with an informal presentation held by participating artists.

Hotel Pro Forma is an international laboratory of performance and installations. Perception, perspective and themes from the world are blended into a conceptual, visual and musical art form.

Hotel Pro Forma is now offering a unique opportunity to one or two professional artists with suitable projects. These artists will be able to develop their projects for 3 to 6 months at Hotel Pro Forma’s atelier in Copenhagen. Artists will furthermore work together with Hotel Pro Forma’s international network, organisation and technical staff in order to realise their project.

The project may be produced as a Hotel Pro Forma production in the 2013/2014 season, but it may also be produced as an independent project once the residency is completed.

The application deadline is 1 December 2011, and artists may begin at Hotel Pro Forma already in spring 2012 or fall 2012 depending on the project and wishes of the individual artists.

Artists who apply must be professional and have documented experience in developing interdisciplinary work. Projects may be anchored in the performing arts, but it is not a requirement. Projects which have the possibility of creating new forms of collaboration across existing art forms will be given priority.

The Open Society Arts and Culture Program works at the nexus of arts, culture, human rights, and social advocacy. Through its grant program, the program strives to encourage broad-based critical reflection and catalyze social action in parts of the world where open societies are absent or weak, and where the cultural rights of minority groups are endangered.

The aim of this call for proposals is to strengthen alternative and autonomous cultural infrastructures and innovative arts initiatives, to raise professional standards in the art world in the Arts and Culture Program’s regions of activity, and to promote reform in the arena of cultural policy.
Eligible Projects

Projects that aim to draw on the power of culture to help build open societies in Central Asia, the Caucasus, Afghanistan, Moldova, Mongolia, and Turkey, and that involve one of the following activities:

1. Cultural production
2. Creating or strengthening cultural platforms
3. Professional development and capacity-building

Project grants that typically range between $1,000 and $30,000.
Projects in Central Asia may be co-funded with Hivos (Humanist Institute for Cooperation with Developing Countries) on a 50-50 matching basis. For Central Asia only, institutional support grants of up to $73,000 (equivalent to €50,000) annually are available for distinguished past grantees through a matching grant program with Hivos.

CAFKA wants to hear what artists are thinking about and what drives their practice. The theme of the Spring 2013 biennial exhibition will therefore be determined by the topics and content identified within the proposals. Further, CAFKA seeks artists who are able to respond to the specific features of the local urban landscape and culture as sites of critique and reflection from a global perspective.

CAFKA is inviting proposals for new or existing works that engage the public and a diverse audience. Works in all media will be considered including sculpture, performance, video, audio, installation, photography, painting, drawing, and digital media.

From December 29, 2011 – March 18, 2012, CoCA will present its 22nd annual juried exhibition seeking work from emerging as well as established artists in a wide variety of visual media. While there is no theme this year as such, we’re hunting for work that experiments and explores in general, crossing disciplinary boundaries, challenging established notions of time and space, cultural production, and the objet d’art itself.

CoCA has presented the Annual since 1989, each time inviting an independent juror to select the work from among the entries received. For this year’s 22nd anniversary of the show, CoCA is proud to have Gary Hill as juror.

ArtsLink Independent Projects Awards provide funding to arts professionals (artists and arts managers) in all disciplines, who propose to undertake projects in the United States in collaboration with a US non-profit arts organization or individual artist. The Center for the Holographic Arts is proud to introduce a new era of the Artist Residency Program.

Through these residencies over 50 artists have been assisted to develop their holography skills and produce artwork that has been shown in museums and galleries around the world. With the move of our Pulse Laser Studio to a newly constructed facility at Ohio State University (OSU) in Columbus, Ohio, USA, we can now offer a unique opportunity for artists starting in 2012. The program offers both experienced holographic artists the opportunity to produce artwork and an introductory residency for artist who wish to incorporate holography into their practice.

Introduction to Pulse Laser Holography
1 week (The first residency will be offered in early-mid March 2012)
During this hands-on workshop four artists will have the opportunity to learn how to create holographic images. The introduction will include using the pulse laser ‘camera’ to record master holograms and using an optical table with a continuous wave laser to transfer images into a holographic print.

Holographic Artist Residency
2 – 3 weeks (Date to be negotiated after acceptance)
This residency gives the artist (or collaborating team) access to the pulse laser ‘camera’ and continuous wave transfer table to make a holographic artwork. The project can focus on creating pulse masters or 1 – 2 pulse masters with reflection or transmission transfers. The pulse laser can image a volume ~ 3′ cubed. For the transfers we currently have 11 x 14 ” plate holders and a 4 x 12 ‘ table available.

What is provided
Artists will have assistance and access to the Holography Laboratories including the Pulse Laser Studio at OSU. Holographic film and chemistry will be provided.

Artists will need to meet the cost of accommodation, travel and any other material required for their project. A letter of support will be provided to artists who wish to apply for grant assistance with these expenses.

During the residency artists will be expected to give a talk about their art practice to the students at OSU and engage with holography students.

Experience
Before applying all artists should have a basic knowledge of holography, either through taking a workshop or by researching how to make holograms. Artists with limited experience making holograms should apply for the Introduction to Pulse Laser Holography. Artist who have produced holograms and have a concept for a holographic artwork should apply for the Holographic Artist Residency

The Darat al Funun Dissertation Fellowship for the Study of Modern and Contemporary Art of the Arab World

Darat al Funun-The Khalid Shoman Foundation is honored to announce the
establishment of a dissertation fellowship to encourage research on modern
and contemporary art of the Arab world. The fellowship provides financial
support of up to ten thousand dollars to Ph.D. candidates in the
humanities and social sciences. One to three fellowships will be granted.
The fellowship duration can range from 4-12 months of residency at Darat
al Funun in Amman, Jordan.
Fellows are expected to pursue their own research, give at least one
public lecture, and participate in Darat al Funun s cultural and artistic
activities. Upon completion of the fellowship, fellows are required to
submit a five to seven page research report that will be available on
Darat al Funun s website.

Fellowship funding is intended to compensate travel and stipend expenses.
Darat al Funun will provide housing and office space. Fellows are
responsible for their own health insurance.

The Klondike Institute of Art and Culture (KIAC) is now accepting applications from visual artists, media artists, and interdisciplinary artists for its 2013 Artist in Residence Program.

The residence accommodates up to two artists concurrently for research, development and production of ongoing or new bodies of work.

Artists may also have the opportunity to facilitate outreach programs such as talks, workshops and exhibitions, intended to promote interaction and professional development, and provide access to a diverse range of contemporary arts practices and theories within the community.

General Call Residencies will run April 21 through June 30, and from August 21 through December 31, 2013. Participants are responsible for all travel and personal expenses including food and materials related to their work.

KIAC accepts applications from visual artists, media artists and interdisciplinary artists, as well as curators. Consideration will be given to professional, established and emerging Canadian and international artists. All disciplines will be considered including but not limited to: Painting, Drawing, Printmaking, Sculpture, Ceramics, Design, Architecture, Photography, Installation, Performance, Video and Film, Filmmaking, New Media, and Audio. KIAC encourages applications from artists of diverse cultural and regional communities of Canada.

There is no fee charged or stipend paid for a residency. Participants are responsible for the cost of all travel to and from Dawson City as well as all materials related to their artwork and for personal living expenses including food. Artists in Residence are asked to provide one free public talk during their residency. Artists who provide additional outreach programming through KIAC will be paid accordingly within the current KIAC fee structure. All successful applicants are encouraged to apply for travel grants from the Canada Council for the Arts or their provincial/regional arts councils; the success rate of travel grants to our residency program are very high.

The Artist in Residence facilities are located in the Macaulay Residence. Constructed in 1901, this 2-story home is now owned by Parks Canada as part of the Dawson Historical Complex National Historic Site of Canada. The building can accommodate two individual artists concurrently. Residents are provided with an individual studio space and bedroom, along with shared living room, bathroom and kitchen areas. The house has full laundry facilities. The studios measure 16′ x 14′ and 13′ x 12′ respectively and are provided with some natural light and additional portable studio lights and basic furnishings. Each studio comes with basic hand tools. There may be limited access, by special request, to additional KIAC and Yukon SOVA facilities and equipment. 2013 Film Festival Residency

The Dawson City International Short Film Festival takes place each spring on Easter Weekend. The 2011 Film Festival presented screenings of over 100 short films and videos from around the world to over 1,600 enthusiastic cinema buffs. The festival weekend includes workshops, panel discussions and special presentations by participating filmmakers and special guests.

Filmmakers working in all media may apply for residency dates to coincide with the Film Festival and have the opportunity to participate in Festival Programming. In past years, KIAC Artists in Residence have presented their films in special screenings and talks, facilitated workshops, and participated in panel discussions.

The Film Festival Residency runs March 1 through April 27, 2013.

2013 The Natural & The Manufactured: An ODD Gallery and KIAC Artist in Residence

Thematic Project

The ODD Gallery seeks proposals from visual artists working in all media for this yearly thematic project, which consists of two exhibition-creation residencies leading to one gallery-based and one outdoor installation. New projects and site-specific ideas are encouraged, but previous work and continuing projects may also be proposed.

The Natural & Manufactured residency and exhibition project runs July 1 through August 21, 2013.

Applications to the N&M will be considered for BOTH residency and exhibition components for July and August of each year. Project activities are presented as part of KIAC’s Yukon Riverside Arts Festival in mid-August. The N&M re-examines the various cultural and economic values imposed on the environment, while exploring alternative social, economic and aesthetic strategies towards a re-interpretation of landscape and social infrastructure.

Project activities include two six-week creation/installation residency periods, two exhibition projects, opening receptions, artist talks and guest lectures.

Cow House Studios Residency

Cow House Studios award four, ten week residencies annually. Applications are open to Irish and international artists. In collaboration with the Wexford Arts Centre and Monster Truck Gallery & Studios, all four artists will exhibit in a group show traveling to both exhibition spaces the following Autumn. These residencies offer a valuable support structure for emerging and mid career artists, and brings critically engaging contemporary work to our rural community.

Cow House Studios provide shared accommodation, and twenty-four hour access to the studio and facilities. The 223 m2 (2400 ft2) open plan space contains a wood shop, darkroom and computer lab. Individual spaces measure 18 m2 (194 ft2), each with abundant natural light. Wexford Arts Centre and Monster Truck Gallery & Studios host a group exhibition for all four artists.

Successful applicants are responsible for travel and material expenses, and asked to contribute €60 per week for food and other consumables.

Programme Dates

The 2012 Artist in Residence Programme runs from September 16 until November 25.

The deadline for the 2012 residency is February 29, 2012.

The Contemporary Art Forum Kitchener and Area (CAFKA) is an artist-run organization that produces an international biennial exhibition of contemporary art projects in the public spaces of the Waterloo Region.

CAFKA wants to hear what artists are thinking about and what drives their practice. The theme of the Spring 2013 biennial exhibition will therefore be determined by the topics and content identified within the proposals. Further, CAFKA seeks artists who are able to respond to the specific features of the local urban landscape and culture as sites of critique and reflection from a global perspective.

CAFKA is inviting proposals for new or existing works that engage the public and a diverse audience. Works in all media will be considered including sculpture, performance, video, audio, installation, photography, painting, drawing, and digital media.

Artist Fees paid for Visual and Media Art Projects: $2,000 CAD, plus travel expenses. Wherever possible CAFKA will work with artists to source the donation of materials to help offset production costs. The Chicago Torture Justice Memorials

Attention Artists, Architects, Photographers, Writers, Poets, Musicians, Performers and everyone concerned with justice. We invite artists and those who seek justice of all kinds to submit proposals for a speculative monument to memorialize the Chicago Police torture cases. Our goal is to honor the survivors of torture, their family members and the African American communities affected by the torture. The monument will also recall and honor the nearly two-decades long struggle for justice waged by torture survivors and their families, attorneys, community organizers, and people from every neighborhood and walk of life in Chicago. These memorial projects will serve as a public reckoning with police torture in Chicago and honor those who fought to stop it. We welcome proposals that exhibit radical imagination – they may critically examine the usefulness and limitations of monuments themselves while exploring the issues of reparations, truth and reconciliation, and justice.

Criteria for proposals:
A proposed monument may take any form – from architecture to haiku, from website to mural, from community organization to performance, from bronze plaque to large-scale memorial.

Submitted plays must explore scientific and/or technological stories, themes, issues and/or events. Science and/or technology must figure prominently in the script, whether in form or content or both. Biographical dramas, history plays, and medical dramas are discouraged unless they significantly employ science and/or technology. Authors are strongly urged to avoid the stereotypes often assigned to science, technology, and those who engage in these disciplines. This competition is not open to plays written in the genre of science fiction.

All entries must be postmarked between September 15 and December 1, 2011.

The STAGE International Script Competition, now in its fifth cycle, awards a $10,000 USD prize for the best new play about science and technology in content and/or form.

The prize is given at a public awards event with distinguished professionals from the worlds of theatre, film, science and/or technology, to be held in conjunction with a staged reading/performance/demonstration with a cast of professional actors. In addition, the winning playwright will have access to advice and guidance from professional theatre and film artists as well as experts in the fields of science, engineering and technology. Other development opportunities for the winning script may be possible.

BADGAST is a research based artist in residency at the coast of The Hague/Scheveningen where Satellietgroep invites artistst and scientists to develop and present research that articulates a cultural, innovative and sustainable significance of the sea and its coasts. Artists, designers, (landscape) architects and scientists can apply for a residency period of max 6 weeks in 2012 by sending a resume, earlier works, motivation, proposal for the work-period and a preferred period.

Satellietgroep is based since 2006 in The Hague, The Netherlands, a country with a strong historic art and innovative relationship with the sea. Satellietgroep has an embedded art and culture approach to researching the way the sea and waterways influences cities and people. We aim to research the pressure on public, social and cultural use on the waterfronts and develop new concepts and strategies focused on a new approach of future sea and coastal urban areas.

Arts and science can express the spatial and social qualities - as well as the problems - of our coastal areas, and make them engagingly accessible to the public. These works can transform a destination normally marked by consumption and recreation into a platform for critical communication and serious reflection.

H-O-P-E is an interactive installation for an exhibition UNITED NATIONS REVISITED in 2012 in Berlin. The project is inspired by a wall painting from 1950 by the Norwegian artist Per Krogh inside the UN Security Council in NYC. My idea is to "remix" the painting in short video loops, and develop them together with people from all over the world, in workshops, talks, events.

For the 2011 Residencies Program, ArtsLink will accept applications from artists and arts managers working in dance, music, theater and literature.

ArtsLink will accept Residencies applications from contemporary artists working in music, dance, theater, or literature and from arts managers and presenters at independent, non-profit and government organizations working in these artistic disciplines. Applicants must be citizens of, and currently reside in, an eligible country.

The ArtsLink Residencies program offers artists and arts managers from Eastern and Central Europe, Russia, Central Asia and the Caucasus a five-week residency at an established, non-profit arts organization in the US.
