AFRICAN CERAMICS CONFERENCE 2009
FIRST CALL FOR PAPERS
This conference will be hosted by the Centre for Visual Arts, University of KwaZulu-Natal, from 18th -27th September 2009. The theme of the conference is:
African Ceramics
This conference intends to address the histories of ceramics in Africa, and to engage with the current Archaeological, Ethnological, Anthropological and artistic use of this medium in Africa over the millennia.
The aim of this conference is to improve our overall understanding of ceramics in past and present African societies by promoting interdisciplinary discourse. Through this conference we also hope to stimulate a series of similar conferences to be held throughout the continent of Africa to provide a broad data base of research and unity of perspective within this medium. All papers should pertain to the specific theme of African ceramics. The ceramics can be made in Africa or outside the continent but must illustrate a specific African influence.
Abstracts should be between 200 and 300 words in length (Times New Roman, font 11, single spaced) and must include the following:
• Title of paper
• Discipline to which it belongs
• Author/s
• Affiliation/s
• Contact details.
Please forward abstracts to armstrongj@ukzn.ac.za by 15 February 2009. You will be notified as soon as possible after this whether your proposal has been accepted. Full details regarding the conference will be made available in February 2009.
